Looking after silver

Sterling silver darkens over time when it meets the air. That is tarnish, and it polishes off. Chlorine speeds it up a lot, so take silver off before a chlorinated pool. Salt water is fine as long as you rinse the piece in fresh water and dry it afterwards.

Store silver on its own in a closed bag or box, so it meets less air and doesn't scratch against other pieces. Wipe it with a soft polishing cloth when it starts to dull.

If it needs more than a cloth can do, bring it in. We clean and polish jewellery at our bench.
